Miles Davis & Mad Men

I have already written about the music of Miles Davis being used in two episodes of season one of Mad Men, not too mention my plea to show creator Matthew Weiner to write Miles Davis into an episode of the show.

The scene: Miles Davis walks into a bar one evening only to encounter Don Draper. They end up talking about life and love and then Miles imparts some heavy advice, which helps Don in whatever disarray he’s likely going to be in. Now there’s a storyline for you!

With season 3 debuting Sunday (August 16), I’ve decided to write about what Miles Davis song should have been incorporated in the previous night’s new episode. Why? I am not really sure. We’ll just see how it goes. It’s no great talent to sit there and yell out, “Oh! ‘I Fall In Love Too Easily’ would be perfect for this scene!”

It’s 1963 when Season 3 begins and that means Seven Steps to Heaven, and possibly My Funny Valentine if they swing into ’64; plenty of choice material.

The show could use music from whenever, but it would be interesting to see the music of Miles Davis match the year the show is set. And if there is another case of a Miles Davis song used in an episode this season, then by all means it will be all hands on deck at MDO headquarters.
